Anaheim to hold off on moving land promised to NFL 

City of Anaheim officials said Thursday that it would take five to six months to review any bids it receives on land it had previously offered exclusively to the NFL, which is considering building a stadium on the property.

Anaheim, which had been in discussions with the NFL since Aug., 2004, gave the league until the end of May to consumate a deal or it would consider other offers on the property, which is adjacent to Angel Stadium.

The NFL and Anaheim had tentatively agreed to sell 53acres for about $50 million.

NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue said last week that the league would spend up to $10 million on further architectural and engineering study of stadium plans at the Coliseum and in Anaheim.

A decision by the NFL on a site is at least several months off, according to several owners.

The league plans to send a contingent of owners and league executives on June 14-15 to meet with business and political leaders in Los Angeles and Orange.

USC and Colorado State have mutually agreed to cancel their 2008 game that was scheduled for Sept. 6 in Denver.

USC said it plans to replace the game with a home game, giving the school seven games at the Coliseum. USC beat Colorado State 49-0 at the Coliseum in 2004 in the only game between the schools.

UCLA's season opener against Utah at the Rose Bowl will kick off at 4 p.m., and the Bruins' Nov. 18 game at Arizona State will begin at 7:15p.m. Both games will be televised by Fox Sports Net.

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor reached an agreement with Miami prosecutors to drop felony charges against him and pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in an assault case, avoiding any jail time that might have derailed his career.

The 23-year-old had been scheduled to go to trial on July 10. He had faced a maximum of 46 years in prison if convicted on three aggravated assault charges stemming from a confrontation last June after his all-terrain vehicles were taken.

GOLF: Steve Flesch was one of the few players who had no issues with the bunkers at the PGA's Memorial, keeping his ball in the lush grass of Muirfield Village to reach 6 under par through 17 holes when the first round was suspended because of storms in the area. He was in the 18th fairway, typical of his day.

Sean O'Hair birdied the 18th and finished with a 5-under 67.

Meanwhile, Valencia's Jason Gore, battling tendinitis in his elbow, shot a 5-over 77 and faces missing the cut. He is set to try to quality for the U.S.Open during a sectional event Monday.

England's Philip Archer missed shooting the first 59 in PGA European Tour history when he lipped out a 6-foot putt on the 18th hole in the first round of the Wales Open.
