Class 2A baseball playoffs, the Prospectors would be a good bet to reach the championship game for the second straight season.

They figured wrong.

After blanking Scio 17-0 in their playoff opener, the Prospectors scored 17 more runs in a quarterfinal contest at No. 6 Bonanza on Friday. The only problem was they allowed 33 runs in the loss to the Antlers antlers

Bonanza now travels to third-ranked Heppner - a 21-4 winner over Gaston - in today's 2A semifinals, while No. 5 Santiam Christian plays host to seventh-ranked Regis in the other semifinal.

Regis claimed the 2003 crown with an 8-1 win over Grant Union.

In the 3A playoffs, fifth-ranked Pleasant Hill gets a third straight home game against No. 2 Henley at 4:30 p.m. today, while third-ranked Gladstone - which ousted both Marist and Newport - travels to No. 6 North Marion in the other semifinal.

Only one ranked team reached the 4A semifinals.

Metro softball teams advance

One thing is certain in the 4A softball playoffs - the Metro League will have a team in Saturday's championship game.

But it won't be top-ranked Beaverton.

The Beavers were ousted by unheralded McNary on Friday, while league runner-up Westview and third-place Southridge will meet in the semifinals today for the third time this season.

Westview won the first game, 5-2, but Southridge evened the series with a 3-0 victory to close the regular season.
