Winter Fest set for Saturday

The third annual REI Winter Sport Fest and Snowshoe Snowshoe

The pass is traversed by Oregon Route 58. Willamette Pass ski area is located there. . The event features free tryouts of snowshoes snowshoes, footgear enabling the wearer to walk on soft snow without sinking. Snowcamping clinics offered

Two free evening workshops on winter camping are scheduled in Eugene. Tonight at 7, REI will present a free Winter Camping Clinic at its store, 306 Lawrence St. Matt Symonds and Emily Kegel will present tips for making your winter outdoor adventure safe, comfortable and fun. On Tuesday, a University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  Outdoor Program clinic will cover the basics of snow travel and camping - including advice on how to pack your bag, keep warm, build snow shelters and prepare for your next (or first) backcountry snow trip. That program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Outdoor Program offices in the basement of the Erb Memorial Union.

Hoodoo to reopen Friday

Hoodoo Ski Area, closed since Jan. 28 due to a lack of snow, will reopen Friday at 9 a.m. Recent snowfalls and the cold weather "have helped a lot," owner Chuck Shepard said. Crews are moving snow around to patch up bare spots in ski runs created by warm rain. Some runs likely will not be ready this weekend, he said. Also, "winter carnival" has been reset for March 1.

Shotgun reservations available

The Eugene District of the Bureau of Land Management will begin accepting reservations for the group picnic shelters at Shotgun Creek Recreation Site near Marcola on a first-call, first-served basis beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. Call 683-6600 or (888) 442-306. In-person reservations will be taken starting at 7:45 a.m. Feb. 14, at the BLM BLM n abbr (US) (= Bureau of Land Management) → les domaines  office, 2890 Chad Drive.

Skiers to let the dogs out!

Man and beast alike still have time to prepare for the sixth annual Cascade Skijoring Classic, to be held March 1-2 at Mount Hood Meadows Mount Hood Meadows is one of the premier ski resorts in Oregon, USA, and the largest ski resort on or near Mount Hood. It is located about 67 miles (108 km) east of Portland, off of Oregon Route 35.  Ski Resort. Competition will be in two classes, novice and advanced. The entry deadline is Feb. 27. Didn't get enough outdoor recreation talk and shopping at last week's Eugene Boat and Sportsmen's Show?
