BRIEFLY.2 LAPD officers hurt in collision SAN FERNANDO -- Two Los Angeles police officers and a civilian were injured Thursday night when a patrol car and another vehicle collided as the officers chased a driver in a stolen vehicle, authorities said. "The police officers' vehicle ended up around a tree," Ron Myers, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said of the 7:30 p.m. crash at O'Melveny Avenue and Brand Boulevard. One officer was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills with a possible broken leg. The other officer and the civilian were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The car-theft suspect got away. -- Daily News State cites GMH on meds failure GLENDALE -- State officials have cited Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center for failing to ensure that medication was properly dispensed, officials said Thursday. The hospital was one of nine in the state penalized by the California Department of Public Health. The penalties carry fines of up to $25,000 per violation, according to the agency. The Department of Public Health faulted Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center for not ensuring medications were administered as ordered, according to the agency. The hospital also failed to clarify an incomplete medication order and failed to follow policies and procedures for the safe administration of medication, according to the agency. -- Daily News Charter service back after repair Most Charter Communications customers in Malibu, Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Topanga, Hidden Hills and unincorporated areas around Woodland Hills had their cable, television and Internet service restored early Wednesday morning, spokesman Craig Watson said. A few pockets of customers without service remain. Crews repaired roughly 4,000 feet of fiber-optic cables and eight telephone poles that were burned in the Malibu wildfires Sunday. The cable supplied service to 90 percent of Charter's customers in the area. Charter customers still without service can call (866) 499-8080. In Santa Clarita, a few hundred Time Warner Cable customers had their cable, Internet and telephone service restored Tuesday night, said spokeswoman Patti Rockenwagner. Time Warner customers who have questions or who want to officially disconnect service because their home burned down can call (888) 892-2253. -- Daily News Sun Valley man suspect in arson WEST HILLS -- A 41-year-old Sun Valley man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after West Hills residents say they saw him lighting a fire and called 911, police said Thursday. A man was seen lighting a fire about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on a hillside near Del Valle Street and Ponce Avenue. After calling police, residents followed the man to a restaurant and waited for officers to arrive. Police booked Catalino Pineda into the Los Angeles County Jail, where he was being held on suspicion of arson. Bail was set at $75,000. Pineda, a native of Guatemala, is currently on probation for making excessive false emergency reports to law enforcement, police said. -- Daily News |
