 man jumps from cliff

SAN PEDRO -- A San Pedro man apparently jumped to his death from a cliff at Point Fermin Park, police said Sunday.

A passer-by telephoned police about 8 p.m. Saturday upon discovering the man's wallet with a suicide note A suicide note is a message left by someone who later attempts or commits suicide. It is estimated that 12-20% of suicides are accompanied by a note.[1] However, incidence rates may depend on race, method of suicide, and cultural differences and may reach rates as high  inside, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Mark Jauregui.

The man's body was seen on the rocks about 200 feet below the park in San Pedro, said Jauregui, adding that the tide rose, and divers were summoned to get the body.

The man's name was unavailable Sunday and the contents of the note were not disclosed.

Police say driver ran down five

A knife-wielding man who was kicked out of a party early Sunday in Boyle Heights ran down five people with his car, seriously injuring three of them, police said.

Officers did not immediately release the name of the man arrested several hours later on suspicion of attempted murder In the criminal law, attempted murder is committed when the defendant does an act that is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the crime of murder and, at the time of these acts, the person has a specific intention to kill. .

The people were hit at about 12:45 a.m. in an alley near North Fickett Street and Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Helmut Kramer of the Hollenbeck Station.

The suspect had been thrown out of the party after brandishing a knife and threatening a fight, police said. He got into a Camaro and ran down five people, three of whom were treated at a hospital for various injuries, Kramer said.
