Scholarships go to six students

PALMDALE -- Six high school students were awarded scholarships Wednesday ranging from $500 to $1,000 by the Scientists, Engineers and Technicians Leadership Association, or SETLA SETLA Sony Entertainment Television Latin America (TV channel) .

Cancer society giving training

Teenagers face murder charges

Prosecutors filed murder charges Wednesday against two Lake Los Angeles gang members accused in the stabbing death of a Palmdale man last week, officials said.

The two, one 14 and the other 15, are accused of killing Paul Martinez, 22, about 1 a.m. on Thursday in the 200 block of East Avenue Q-10, sheriff's homicide Detective Frank Salerno said. The motive was unclear, Salerno said

The two had been arrested Friday. The 15-year-old also faces a special allegation of using a knife.

The older boy entered the Juvenile Court equivalent of a not-guilty plea at his arraignment A criminal proceeding at which the defendant is officially called before a court of competent jurisdiction, informed of the offense charged in the complaint, information, indictment, or other charging document, and asked to enter a plea of guilty, not guilty, or as otherwise permitted  Wednesday, said district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison.

The 14-year-old was to be arraigned today.
