Injured woman is identified

The woman who was critically injured after her boyfriend drove through the guardrail of a railroad crossing and parked his car in front of an oncoming train was identified Tuesday as Michelle Wright Michelle Wright (born July 1 1961 in Morpeth, Ontario) is a Canadian country music singer. Wanted gang member kills self

A man whose alleged killing of his sister's ex-boyfriend in Panorama City landed him on the city's 10-most-wanted gang members list, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, police said.

Council declares fire emergency

Setting the stage to apply for state and federal relief, the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  on Tuesday declared a state of emergency for the 817-acre Griffith Park Fire.

Councilman Tom LaBonge said it could take 20 years to restore the park.

City officials originally said it would cost $50 million to repair the roads and trails, although that figure is being reviewed and a final estimate will be released in 90 days.

Substantial areas of the park remain closed to the public because of the public safety danger.

Also, city officials are looking to push through an emergency ban on open fires within the park until the current drought conditions change.

Officials eye ban on polystyrene

Los Angeles County supervisors ordered a report Tuesday on the impact of banning polystyrene food containers in all county facilities and unincorporated areas.

Polystyrene, commonly known by the brand name Styrofoam, is nonbiodegradable and difficult to recycle. It comprises a large volume of the debris left behind at county parks, beaches, flood control channels and in local communities.

The report will also look at the feasibility of prohibiting the use of these containers at all food service establishments and retail stores in the unincorporated county areas, where 1 million people reside.

A Los Angeles City Council committee recommended Tuesday that the city enact a moratorium on any new medical marijuana dispensaries until the city can draft new laws to regulate where they can operate.
