Two anti-Semitic letters probed

SHERMAN OAKS -- An anti-Semitic letter was sent to a Jewish community center in Sherman Oaks on Wednesday, the second such letter in two weeks, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police said.

The letter comes less than two weeks after swastikas and an anti-Semitic message were posted on the Sherman Oaks office door of City Councilman Jack Weiss Jack Weiss, is a member of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 5th district. Weiss was elected in 2001 and reelected in 2005. The 5th district includes parts of the Westside and the San Fernando Valley. .

Officials at The Valley Cities Jewish Community Center called police about noon to say they had received the letter, according to Los Angeles police spokesman Kevin Maiberger.

Park restoration urged after blaze

To promote the recovery of Griffith Park after 817 acres burned last week, Councilman Tom LaBonge wants to set up a task force of city employees, advocacy groups and neighborhood councils to develop a restoration plan.

LaBonge also wants more weather monitoring stations closer to Griffith Park to provide more accurate information on conditions in the park, and a ban on construction Dumpsters on narrow hillside streets.

Man hospitalized after car chase

SIMI VALLEY -- A man who was hit with a stun gun after leading officers on a low-speed car chase that ended when he crashed into the side yard of a home is in critical condition, police said Wednesday.

Patrol car hits man in traffic

SIMI VALLEY -- A man who was believed to be driving under the influence early Wednesday crashed his car into some trees, walked into traffic and was hit by a police car, landing him in critical condition at the hospital, authorities said.

Funds proposed for river project
