Deputies seek man in armed robberies

PALMDALE -- A man who went on an armed-robbery spree Tuesday night in Palmdale remained at large Wednesday, sheriff's deputies said.

In less than an hour, he stole two cell phones in separate incidents and then attempted to rob a woman of her purse, deputies said.

At 9:15 p.m., the robber used a revolver to threaten a man as he grabbed his cell phone at Comstock Court and Yellowstone Street.

About 20 minutes later, he stole another cell phone, this time from a woman at Third Street East and Avenue P.

Just a few minutes later, a man matching the robber's description tried to steal a woman's purse near Date Palm Drive and Desert View Drive, but he fled when the victim's father appeared, deputies said.

The three victims described their assailant as a Latino in his mid-20s and driving a raised white Chevrolet Suburban with a modified exhaust, sheriff's deputies said. He had a female passenger.

Neighbor's tip leads to two theft arrests

PALMDALE -- A neighbor's call to authorities early Wednesday morning led to the arrests of two men on suspicion of grand theft, sheriff's deputies said.

At 4:40 a.m., a neighbor reported seeing two men who appeared to be removing stereo equipment from a vehicle at Cocina Lane and Via Verdad, sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies found that the two actually were installing stereo equipment they had stolen overnight from Clark and Howard Towing in Palmdale, sheriff's officials said.

The suspects were identified as Ryan Lasko, 19, and Brian Cummings, 18.
