Suspect shot to death during confrontation

VAN NUYS -- A man who reportedly armed himself with a pipe or bat was shot and killed Monday night by police officers who were responding to a domestic violence call, authorities said.

Officers tried to enter a home in the 17600 block of Runnymede Street at about 7 p.m., but the man refused to let them in, LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

 spokesman Mike Lopez said.

Officers then forced their way into the home, where they were confronted by the man, who armed himself with a pipe, stick or bat, Lopez said.

One of the officers fired on the man, who later died at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  in Mission Hills, he said.

The man's name was not released.

Collision with SUV kills motorcyclist

WOODLAND HILLS -- A motorcyclist was killed late Monday after colliding with an SUV at the intersection of Oso Avenue and Vanowen Street, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was traveling west on Vanowen at a high rate of speed when he struck the SUV, which was heading south on Oso, LAPD spokesman Mike Lopez said.

Lopez said alcohol was not a factor in the 8:50 p.m. crash, which was blamed on the motorcyclist.
