Motorist injured as car hits poles

AGOURA HILLS -- A motorist was injured Saturday in Agoura Hills when a vehicle crashed into two telephone poles and knocked both down, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on Cornell Road at Caleta Road about 6:40 p.m., said CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.

The driver, who was not identified and whose condition was not known, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a hospital located within the city of Torrance, California, USA. The hospital was founded in 1946, and is funded by Los Angeles County

Harbor-UCLA serves as the Level I Trauma Center for the South Bay area.

Orange Line bus, vehicle collide

ENCINO -- An Orange Line bus and vehicle collided Saturday in Encino, causing minor injuries, police said.

A vehicle apparently rear-ended the bus about 2:30 p.m. at Balboa and Victory boulevards, said Lt. Steven Allen of the LAPD's Valley Traffic Division.

Girl hit, dragged; driver arrested

PANORAMA CITY -- A 10-year-old North Hollywood girl was in critical but stable condition after being struck and dragged by a vehicle near the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Ranchito Avenue late Friday, police said.

Police said Rafael Mendoza was driving west on Roscoe Boulevard when he hit the girl and her mother. When Mendoza tried to leave the scene, officers said, the girl's clothing caught in his van's bumper and she was dragged about 150 feet.

Police said Mendoza attempted to drive away but witnesses blocked his van with their cars and held him until police arrived, officials said.

The girl was taken to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Her mother suffered a broken arm. Police booked Mendoza on suspicion of hit-and-run driving, felony drunk driving and driving with a suspended license.

GLENDALE -- A man was killed in a four-vehicle crash early Saturday on the westbound Ventura Freeway The Ventura Freeway is a freeway in southern California running from Ventura to Pasadena. 17-year-old shot, dies after dispute

VAN NUYS -- A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot Friday after an argument near the intersection of Archwood Street and Gaviota Avenue, police said.

Police said the incident occurred about 4:35 p.m. Witnesses said the suspect in the shooting fled in a black Ford Bronco.

The man was described only as Hispanic, about 30 years old.

Hesperia blaze burns 1,400 acres

Firefighters from Los Angeles and Riverside counties Saturday helped fight a 1,400-acre brush fire in San Bernardino County that forced the evacuation of about 200 homes, fire officials said.

The fire began about 10:40 a.m. near Hesperia, about 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
