Quartz Hill High wins in mock trial A simulated trial-level proceeding conducted by students to understand trial rules and processes. Usually tried before a mock jury, these proceedings are different from Moot Court proceedings, which simulate appellate arguments.

 Mock Trial Tournament in which student teams acted as prosecutors, defense attorneys and other court participants and argued a criminal case before a jury made up of local attorneys.

Following Quartz Hill in the standings were Desert Christian, Paraclete, Highland and Lancaster high schools. Ten schools participated.

The awards ceremony was Thursday evening at Lancaster High School's auditorium.

A.V. job fair set for Wednesday

LANCASTER -- A job fair, billed as the Antelope Valley's largest, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Antelope Valley College's cafeteria, 3041 W. Ave. K, Lancaster.

The cafeteria is in the Student Center near parking lot 5.

The college's Job Placement Center is sponsoring the event, which last fall attracted an estimated 1,500 job seekers and more than 80 employers.

Employers represent a diverse range of professions, including law enforcement, child care, clerical, customer service, education, health care, aerospace, military and others.

Job seekers should bring resumes and be dressed in business attire.
