BRIEFLY.13-year-old killed in riding crash SIMI VALLEY -- A 13-year-old boy was killed while riding his off-road motorcycle, authorities said Monday. Jake Adam Lucas, a student at Valley View Middle School, died about 2 p.m. Sunday after he rode into a cable-type gate across a dirt road on private property in the hills north of Walnut Avenue and west of Tapo Canyon Road, police said. Police asked witnesses to call Officer Alan McCord or Officer Dan Hampson at (805) 583-6950. -- Daily News Collision leads to serious injury CANOGA PARK -- A car ran a red light early Monday and struck another vehicle, seriously injuring its 10-year-old passenger, officials said. The unidentified boy was airlifted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles following the 5:30 a.m. crash at Victory Boulevard and De Soto Avenue, officials said. He was riding in a Honda Civic that was struck broadside by a Nissan Maxima, officials said. The Maxima then hit a Nissan Sentra that was waiting to make a left turn. -- Daily News Daughter taken after argument PACOIMA -- A man abducted his 2-year-old daughter Monday after he got into an argument with the girl's mother, police said. Grover Smith, 30, grabbed the girl, Allovey Smith, while she was walking with her mother in the 13100 block of Osborne Street about 11:30 a.m., said Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department. Smith was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 170 pounds with a scar on his forehead and a tattoo of the sun on his back. Police said Smith drove off after grabbing the girl, but collided with a pole. He then fled on foot with the girl, police said. Without going into details, Lopez said police were hopeful of making contact with Smith soon. Allovey is 3 feet tall, weighs 40 pounds and wears her hair in a pony tail. She was wearing a red sweat shirt and white and purple striped boots. -- City News Service Nancy Reagan to co-host party SIMI VALLEY -- Nancy Reagan and CNN commentator Larry King will host an invitation-only party Friday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library to mark the opening on an exhibit of red gowns worn by seven first ladies. The exhibit -- featuring gowns worn by Reagan and Laura Bush, Barbara Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Rosalynn Carter, Betty Ford and Lady Bird Johnson -- is scheduled to run through Mother's Day. -- Daily News |
