Man killed, girl hurt in shooting

LANCASTER -- A man was shot and killed and a 12-year-old girl wounded when several men walked up to a home and opened fire, sheriff's officials said Saturday.

Michael Carter, 47, of Lancaster was attacked outside a home in the 45400 block of Sancroft Avenue shortly before midnight. The shooters ran north on Sancroft Avenue and out of sight.

Carter was standing at the front door when unidentified men approached him and fired several shots, sheriff's deputies said in a statement. The girl was inside the home and was shot in the buttocks buttocks /but·tocks/ (but´oks) the two fleshy prominences formed by the gluteal muscles on the lower part of the back. .

Poster contest deadline near

The deadline is fast approaching for the 2007 Strawberry Festival A Strawberry Festival is an event and celebration in many towns in North America. In most instances, areas around these towns are, or have been, deeply involved in the production and marketing of strawberries, and the festivals are usually held in late spring around the time of the  poster contest, in which organizers choose a winner from a pool of everyday folks.

Those who want to enter have until Jan. 5. The poster design is a key element in the marketing and on souvenirs for the festival, which celebrates California's agricultural heritage and Ventura County's biggest crop. Next year's event is set for May 19-20.

The artwork submitted must be 16 inches by 17 inches and mounted on an 18-by-19-inch black matte board.

Point Mugu air show back in '07

After having been canceled four times in the past nine years, including this year, the Point Mugu Air Show is back for 2007.

The two-day show is scheduled for March 31 and April 1, with free admission and free parking, and headlined by the Air Force Thunderbirds jet acrobatics acrobatics
