Two-car crash leaves man dead

Both cars skidded off the freeway and down an embankment south of the Valencia Boulevard off-ramp, which was closed from about 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., he said.

Motorist killed in SUV collision

TUJUNGA -- A 31-year-old motorist was killed Tuesday when her sedan collided head on with a sport utility vehicle on La Tuna Canyon Road, where residents say traffic collisions are common.

The unidentified woman died at the scene of the 8:45 a.m. crash in the 8300 block of La Tuna Canyon Road, officials said. The driver of the SUV, a 17-year old boy, was hospitalized at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  in Mission Hills in fair condition.

Officials had not determined the cause of the crash.

Sunbather's kin suing Oxnard

VENTURA -- The family of a sunbather run over and killed by a police beach-patrol vehicle filed a $10 million negligence lawsuit against the city of Oxnard.

The suit filed Monday claims Oxnard did not have a beach-driving policy and did not train its officers how to drive on beaches.

In October, the city of Oxnard and the Oxnard Police Department admitted liability and accepted responsibility.

Santa to visit schools Friday

Trans fats policy for L.A. viewed

Health officials were asked Tuesday to determine whether Los Angeles County should adopt a policy that restricts restaurants from cooking with trans fats.

The Department of Public Health will report back in 45 days on proposed regulations and calorie labeling of trans fats. Health officials will also determine whether fast-food restaurants should be required to include calorie and nutritional information on their menus.
