Death urged in double murder

After deliberating less than an hour, a jury Friday recommended the death penalty for an Anaheim truck driver convicted of fatally stabbing his two young daughters in Sun Valley.

Julian Beltran, 32, was convicted last month in the Jan. 23, 2002, murders of his daughters, Marissa, 6, and Natalie, 2.

Repairs set for Orange Line

Starting Tuesday, a one-mile stretch of the Orange Line's route that's showing some wear and tear will undergo repairs, authorities said.

The road work site lies east of Valley College, and work is expected to be completed in about two weeks. The bus route will detour slightly around the construction and might cause five-minute delays to service but buses won't miss any stops.

Body parts found floating in surf

OXNARD -- A man walking along the shore at Hollywood Beach on Friday morning found part of a human body floating in the surf.

Ventura County sheriff's deputies and Harbor Patrol officers pulled the body from the water, and an autopsy was scheduled for today.

Businesses urged not to fight wage

Nearly two dozen federal lawmakers from California called on businesses Friday to drop a referendum aimed at overturning a living-wage ordinance affecting some 3,500 employees at 13 hotels near LAX.

The 22 lawmakers -- all members of the state's congressional delegation -- also commended Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa (born Antonio (Tony) Ramon Villar, Jr. on January 23, 1953) is the mayor of Los Angeles, California. Opponents of the plan are trying to gather 49,308 signatures of registered voters by Dec. 29 to force a vote on the living- wage measure.

Supporters are concerned that the living-wage ordinance, which is to go into effect Dec. 30, could be overturned by a referendum backed by business groups.
