Car show, toy drive on Sunday

PALMDALE -- A car show and toy drive will help the Children's Bureau's 19th annual Holiday Toy Shop, which provides gifts to more than 800 children and teens from low-income and foster families.

The car show and drive-by toy drop-off will start at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Palmdale International Shopping Mall, 2520 E. Palmdale Blvd. The show entry fee is $10 per vehicle, $20 per bicycle club or a new unwrapped toy of the same value.

People wishing to contribute toys can also stop by the Children's Bureau The Children's Bureau may refer to:

  • The National Children's Bureau, a London-based charity exploring a range of issues involving children.

Chamber to hold fundraiser

 Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's scholarship fund for local students will benefit from the organization's Holiday Casino Holiday Casino was a hotel and casino that opened in 1972 as a 15-story tower with a showboat as a podium. In 1983, they added a 23-story tower. Holiday Casino added a 35-story tower in 1989. In 1992 it was renamed Harrah's Las Vegas.  Night.

The event will be 7 p.m. to midnight Friday at the Palmdale Woman's Club, 2141 E. Ave. Q.

Admission is $15 per person, which includes one drink.

Winery group holds elections

PALMDALE -- Local vineyard and winery owners have elected leaders to the newly formed Antelope Valley Winegrowers Association.

With five wineries and some 20 vineyards established since the early 1980s in the region from Agua Dulce to Tehachapi, local vintners say it is time for them to become more united and to promote wine grown in and around the Antelope Valley.

``It's a dream come true,'' said Cyndee Donato, owner of Antelope Valley Winery.

Bookstore wants donations

PALMDALE -- Barnes & Noble bookstore has invited customers to purchase books for needy children.

Books donated at the Palmdale store, 39228 10th St. W., by Jan. 1 will be distributed to Toys for Tots Toys For Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which donates toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The program was founded in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks. , Child Care Resource Center, Yes 2 Kids Child Abuse Prevention Council, and Saddle Up Therapeutic Riding Stables.
