Suspect found hanged in cell

VAN NUYS -- A 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of domestic violence was found hanged to death in a holding cell, authorities said Monday.

Kirk Ernest Horn was found hanging by his T-shirt from a bunk bed around 4:25 a.m. Friday during an inspection by jailers at the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  City Jail facility in Van Nuys. Horn was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

Man convicted in 1972 slaying

An 80-year-old former taxi driver was convicted Monday of first-degree murder for strangling a woman in her San Pedro bungalow on Christmas Eve 1972.

The Los Angeles Superior Court jury deliberated about a day before finding Adolph Theodore Laudenberg guilty of killing 43-year-old Lois ``Bonnie'' Petrie.

Laudenberg, also suspected of committing several other killings in the 1970s, was wheeled into the courtroom on a gurney gurney /gur·ney/ (gur´ne) a wheeled cot used in hospitals.

Gang member faces charges

SIMI VALLEY -- A 25-year-old gang member suspected of slashing one man's face and carving initials into another man's back was arrested, authorities said Monday.

Delfino Vasquez of Simi Valley was arrested Friday on suspicion of aggravated mayhem, torture, false imprisonment false imprisonment, complete restraint upon a person's liberty of movement without legal justification. Actual physical contact is not necessary; a show of authority or a threat of force is sufficient. The person falsely imprisoned may sue the offender for damages.  and for committing crimes to benefit a gang, Simi Valley police said.

Fatal stabbing occurs near store

VAN NUYS -- A 36-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday night during a dispute over a parking spot at a toy store, authorities said.

Wayne Allen Moyer was stabbed in the chest and died in the bed of his friend's pickup truck en route to the hospital, said Los Angeles police.

Police said an argument between Moyer and a group of men in the parking lot of a Toys ``R'' Us store at 9:50 p.m. 16040 Sherman Way had escalated into the fight.

The suspects are 20 to 25 years old and drove away in a white SUV and a black Honda Civic or Accord.
