Man, woman die in murder-suicide

WINNETKA -- A 29-year-old man fatally shot his 26-year-old girlfriend inside her apartment before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide, police said Saturday.

Officers were sent to the apartment at 9:56 p.m. Friday after someone reported shots fired inside the apartment complex at 20258 Roscoe Blvd., according to a police department statement. As the officers approached an upstairs unit, shots were fired inside and one bullet flew through a window near where a police officer was standing.

PANORAMA CITY -- A 10-year-old girl was hospitalized in serious condition Saturday night after becoming impaled on a piece of rebar, Los Angeles fire officials said.

Firefighters from the West Van Nuys division found the girl after responding to a 7:05 p.m. call to the 15200 block of Marson Street, said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles. .

Humphrey said the girl, who was not immediately identified, had been playing with other children in the backyard of her home next to some construction material when she fell backward off a stool. The rebar entered her upper leg and lower torso, Humphrey said.

She was taken by air ambulance air ambulance Emergency medicine A helicopter or, less commonly, a fixed wing aircraft, used to evacuate a person who requires immediate medical attention that cannot be provided at his/her current location  to Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles where she underwent surgery to remove the rebar.
