Veterans Day event planned

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  -- Hundreds of people are expected to gather Nov. 11 in the Veterans Plaza area at Rancho Tapo Community Park in honor of the nation's veterans.

The annual Veterans Day event is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Simi Valley Post 10049, Disabled American Veterans The Disabled American Veterans, or DAV, is an organization for disabled veterans that helps them and their families through various means. It currently has over 1.2 million members.

The DAV was controversial during the 2006 election cycle.
 Chapter 55 of Simi Valley, Ventura County Marine Corps League Detachment 597, the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley and the Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Recreation and Park District.

Office to help uninsured kids

SIMI VALLEY -- Health Care for Kids opened an office Oct. 18 at 2003 Royal Ave. to help uninsured children and teenagers get access to health care in the area.

The program was set up to increase enrollment in existing state insurance programs such as the no-cost Medi-Cal and low-cost Healthy Families for uninsured children who qualify.

Officials estimate there are 32,000 children in Ventura County who are uninsured, and about 27,000 of them are potentially eligible for Medi-Cal or Healthy Families.

Those who don't qualify will be referred to low-cost private insurance programs such as a plan offered by Kaiser Permanente Kaiser Permanente is an integrated managed care organization, based in Oakland, California, founded in 1945 by industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and physician Sidney R. Garfield. , officials said.

Civil War event this weekend

 sponsored by the Rotary Club of Moorpark is scheduled Saturday and next Sunday at Tierra Rejada Ranch, 3370 Sunset Drive Sunset Drive, locally known as Sunset Drive and Southwest 72nd Street, is an east-west street that runs south of downtown Miami, Florida in Miami-Dade County, Florida. .

Gates open at 10 a.m. both days, and battles are scheduled at noon, 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Saturday, and at noon and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children, with those under 6 free.

Arnold attends Reagan event

SIMI VALLEY -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger (German pronunciation (IPA): [ˈaɐ̯nɔlt ˈaloɪ̯s ˈʃvaɐ̯ʦənˌʔɛɡɐ]  will be at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Coordinates:

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Center for Public Affairs
 at 11 a.m. Monday to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Reagan's gubernatorial election.

Tickets are $75 per person for the special event that includes an introduction by former California Gov. Pete Wilson, a Reagan retrospective lecture by Schwarzenegger, followed by lunch.

Holiday tour tickets on sale

SIMI VALLEY -- Tickets can be purchased in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village and Woodland Hills as well as on the Internet for the 15th Anniversary Holiday Homes tour to raise money for the Wellness Community.

The self-guided tour of four Conejo Valley homes will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 2-3, with proceeds helping fund the Wellness Community's free programs of support and education for people fighting cancer.

Tickets can be purchased at www.twcvv.org at seven locations, including the Decor Store at 41 Moreland Road in Simi Valley or at 3900 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd, Suite 101; Canfield Persons in the Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks or at 31133 Via Colinas 101 in Westlake Village; Zenders at 1250 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.; the Wellness Community Valley/Ventura at 530 Hampshire Road; and Deforest's Patio, Fireside and Christmas Shop at 22105 Ventura Blvd.
