Officer struck and killed by car

A 31-year-old Los Angeles police officer with a fiancee and two young children was killed Sunday when he was struck by a car while investigating a crash in the Los Feliz area, but the other motorist was not cited, police said.

Officer Landon Dorris of the LAPD's Northeast Division was outside his car investigating a minor traffic collision at Riverside Drive and Hyperion Avenue about 1:25 a.m. when he was struck, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Michael Seguin of the Northeast Division, where Dorris was stationed.

He was taken to County/USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from major head injuries, said Officer Marta Garcia.

Dorris' partner, Officer Marc Fujiwara, was not injured, Garcia said.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and was not arrested or cited, said LAPD Sgt. Lee Sands.

The last LAPD officer killed while on duty was 31-year-old Ricardo Lizarraga, who was shot and killed on Feb. 20, 2004.
