Power discharge burns contractor

LA CRESCENTA -- An electrical discharge severely burned a Southern California Edison Southern California Edison (or SCE Corp), the largest subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE: EIX), is the primary electricity supply company for much of Southern California. The discharge from a 16,000-volt circuit occurred about 10:30 a.m. near Pennsylvania Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, where a crew with Riverside-based Pouk & Steinle was repairing faulty transformers, said Tom Boyd, an Edison spokesman.

The contractor's identity was not immediately released, but he suffered first- and second-degree burns to the arms and face and was transported to Verdugo Hills Hospital, Boyd said.

The wounds did not appear life-threatening. Boyd said 2,158 customers were affected, though power was restored to all but 103 by 11:20 a.m.

Morning shooting hurts man's back

NORTH HILLS -- A bullet grazed a man's back early Wednesday morning in what police believed was a gang-related shooting.

Jury still unsure in market deaths

A jury ended its eighth day of deliberations on Wednesday without reaching a verdict in the case of an 89-year-old man whose car tore through a Santa Monica farmers market, killing 10 people and injuring 63 others.

Hit-and-run driver injures two girls
