Man get 36 years in woman's death

BURBANK -- A Burbank man was sentenced Friday to 36 years to life in prison for beating his former girlfriend to death with a hammer and a stick.

Manuel Castenado Banos, 35, was convicted last month of second-degree murder in the April 2004 slaying of Mary Ann Cortez, 43. Banos had previously been convicted of felony spousal abuse for beating Cortez in 2003.
