Van Nuys to unveil check-in service

 officials are slated to unveil a remote baggage check-in system today at the Van Nuys Airport Van Nuys Airport (IATA: VNY, ICAO: KVNY, FAA LID: VNY) is a public airport located in Van Nuys, California in the San Fernando Valley, within the Los Angeles city limits. .

The service is expected to decrease wait times at the airport.

The pilot program, operated by Orlando-based Baggage Airline Guest Service Incorporated, will allow passengers to check their bags and receive boarding passes at a kiosk at the fly-away. The fee is $5.

Masked gunman robs Encino bank

ENCINO -- A masked gunman robbed a bank Thursday and made off on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, authorities said.

The man walked into First Bank & Trust, 17777 Ventura Blvd., around 2:15 p.m. and ordered all customers to get down on the ground, said Laura Eimiller, FBI spokeswoman.

Eimiller said the man told bank employees, ``I want the money.''

The man wore all black and had a cloth mask. Nobody was injured.

Alleged fraudulent art sales probed

VAN NUYS -- FBI agents searched a number of locations in Van Nuys and Studio City on Thursday as part of a probe into an art auction TV show which allegedly sold fraudulent artwork.

Four federal search warrants and seven seizure warrants were issued in connection with sales for the TV show ``Fine Art Treasures Gallery,'' a national program that can also be seen online, said Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice charged with investigating all violations of federal laws except those assigned to some other federal agency. .

The FBI did not give addresses of the locations, which also included La Canada Flintridge.

Fine Art Treasures Gallery also does business as Morei, Inc. and Fine Art Network Inc.

Condominium to get zone change

The Community Redevelopment Agency approved a zone change Thursday designed to emphasize energy savings for a planned 58-unit condominium project in North Hollywood.

The project at 4900 N. Vineland Ave. will be on property that had been commercially zoned and is within the CRA's East Valley Region. It will be financed with private funds by the developer, Vineland Investors.

Under terms of the project, all of the units will be built with energy efficient designs.

Suspicious box stops train traffic

BURBANK -- A suspicious package left at the Burbank Metrolink station Thursday stopped train traffic for about 40 minutes and was later found to contain a doll, authorities said.
