Passenger killed in motorcycle fall

LANCASTER -- Excessive speed and alcohol caused a man to lose control of his motorcycle, killing his 24-year-old passenger and leaving the driver with minor injuries, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The crash in the 2600 block of East Avenue J-8 occurred Friday at 10:53 p.m., said Sgt. J. Bluff of the sheriff's Lancaster station.

The motorcyclist, 25-year-old Lancaster resident Dustin Dies, was westbound on his 2006 Yamaha R-6 motorcycle through the desert when he lost control, Bluff said.

Both Dies and his passenger, 24-year-old Palmdale resident Alicia Martin, were thrown off the bike. Dies landed in a water puddle and suffered minor injuries to his chest.

The fatality occurred after his car collided with a car driven by a 17-year-old Palmdale boy attempting a U-turn on the freeway.

After the initial collision, Villasenor and the 17-year-old got out of their cars.

A car driven by Randy Mendez, 49, of Palmdale, collided with Villasenor's car, which was stopped in the car-pool lane, and then struck Villasenor, officials said.

Villasenor died at the scene, officials said.
