The club is a non-profit organization that provides support, encouragement and friendship for stay-at-home moms. Helpers wanted to assist patients PALMDALE -- The American Cancer Society is seeking patient service volunteers to help cancer patients and their families. Volunteers need excellent ``people'' skills and should be good listeners and have the ability to follow a project through with the patient or family member. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed. All volunteers are asked to attend a training that will inform them about the society's patient service programs and enhance their skills in working with cancer patients and caregivers. Essays sought for annual contest LANCASTER -- Essays are being sought for a local flower shop's third annual grandparents' essay contest. The winner will receive a fresh floral arrangement every month for 12 months from Julie's Flower Basket. Last year's winner Mildred Taylor wrote a letter to her young granddaughter about becoming a grandmother unexpectedly at age 76. Sept. 15 event needs exhibitors PALMDALE -- Businesses are being sought to participate in the 15th annual Antelope Valley Salute to Youth: the Career Connection, scheduled for 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Air Force Plant 42. There is no cost to be an exhibitor. Organizers are looking for local businesses, government agencies and community volunteers to provide exhibits and demonstrations on career paths including aerospace, media, natural resources, health care, information technology and government.
