 organizations, will hold educational meetings regarding the West Nile virus.

The virus was recently detected in birds in Palmdale and Lancaster.

Sessions are:

7:30 p.m. today by the Leona Valley Town Council at the Leona Valley Community Building, 8367 Elizabeth Lake Road, Leona Valley.

7:30 p.m. July 17 by the Acton Town Council at the Acton Community Center, 3748 W. Nickels Ave., Acton.

7 p.m. July 27 by the Association of Rural Town Councils at Fire Station 129, 42110 6th St. W., Lancaster.

7 p.m. Aug. 2 by the Juniper juniper, any tree or shrub of the genus Juniperus, aromatic evergreens of the family Cupressaceae (cypress family), widely distributed over the north temperate zone. Tutor training set for July 22

PALMDALE -- The Palmdale Library Literacy Program is offering a tutor training workshop July 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling .

The Palmdale Library Literacy Program provides one-on-one instruction to English-speaking adults who want to improve their reading and writing skills. Materials are provided to learners for free, and tutors are volunteers. Tutuors undergo about 10 hours of training and donate two to three hours of their time per week.

Participants will learn new ways to line dance incorporating many styles of music and moves, including Motown, jazz and blues. No partner is needed. Appropriate shoes are required.

The seven-week class will meet until Aug. 21. The class is open to people 18 and older, and costs $55 for the session.

Senior panel will meet on Tuesday

PALMDALE -- The city's Senior Citizens Advisory Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Joshua Room of the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Highway.

Discussion topics will include updates on issues concerning Palmdale senior citizens.

The Senior Citizens Advisory Commission provides communication between the Palmdale City Council and Palmdale senior citizens. The commission also provides recommendations to the City Council on issues relating to relating to relate prepconcernant

Sign language for babies taught

PALMDALE -- The parks and recreation department will present a class teaching parents how to use sign language to engage their baby in two-way conversation starting Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center, 3850 E. Ave. S.

The classes, titled ``Use Your Signs,'' will educate parents about what signs to show a child, when to start signing, how to make signs and how signs can enhance a child's early language development.

Two sessions will be offered for parents with children age 6 months to 2 years old. A three-week session will meet July 11 to 25 for $45, and a four-week session will meet from Aug. 1 to 22 for $60.

PEARBLOSSOM -- A community pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Pearblossom Community United Methodist Church United Methodist Church, in the United States, religious body formed by the union in 1968 of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church (see Methodism). , on Pearblossom Highway at 126th Street East. The breakfast is free, but donations will be accepted.
