A.V. soldier's death dips flags

LANCASTER -- Flags were being flown at half-staff at the state Capitol on Thursday to honor the memory of a 19-year-old soldier from Lancaster who was fatally injured in Iraq.

Teens can apply for TV broadcast

PALMDALE -- Teens can apply to be part of the Fox ``Teen Choice 2006'' television broadcast today and Saturday at the Palmdale water park.

Teens can get their photos taken at the Teen Choice Casting Call booth from noon to 4 p.m. today and Saturday at DryTown Water Park, 3850 E. Ave. S.

Teens can retrive the digital photos at www.fox.com/teenchoice and download the entry form. Similar booths are being set up at malls and amusement parks around the United States.

Fox is looking for a boy and girl to hand out surfboard trophies at the show, which will air live Aug. 20 from Los Angeles. Each winner gets a four-day, three-night trip with two guests to attend the show and a VIP party.
