Reagan Library to ring in Fourth

Nancy's birthday gets sweet fete

SIMI VALLEY _ The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library will celebrate former first lady Nancy Reagan's birthday Thursday with free birthday cake in the main lobby while supplies last.

Free petite chocolate chip Chocolate chips are small chunks of chocolate. They are often sold in a round, flat-bottomed teardrop shape (similar to a Hershey's Kiss). They are available in numerous sizes, from large to miniature, but are usually around 1 cm in diameter.  cookies, one of Nancy Reagan's favorites, will be given out with purchases in the Reagan Country Cafe.

Visitors may also sign birthday cards, which will be sent to the former first lady.

The library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 40 Presidential Drive.

Police foundation to hold fundraiser

SIMI VALLEY _ The annual Simi Valley Police Foundation Golf Tournament is scheduled Aug. 28 at the Lost Canyons Golf Club to raise funds for a number of police-related programs.

Among other things the money raised will help support the department's Explorer Scout post, the K9 police dog program, anti-drug abuse programs, community safety education and the SWAT team.

``We hope to raise lots of money for these organizations that are focused on keeping our community safe,'' said Dave McCormick, chairman of the event that opens with check-in at 9:30 a.m. and ends with a 6 p.m. awards dinner.

Organizers are seeking sponsors, and more information about the tournament is available at (805) 526-0265 or (805) 732-5040. Information is also available at the police foundation's Web site at www.svpf.org or by calling (805) 526-6105.

Honors given for teen videos

THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Another big winner in the competition was Kellen Moore of Moorpark, who won three awards.

He won for best technical achievement and best music video for ``One Word,'' and won the best cinematography cinematography: see motion picture photography.

Grants expands after-school care

SIMI VALLEY -- A $75,000 grant from the Weingart Foundation is launching an after-school program for adolescents between 12 and 22 in Simi Valley this fall through the Arc Ventura County organization that has been serving people with developmental disabilities developmental disabilities (DD),

CAMARILLO -- The Ventura County Interfaith Community is holding a Feast of Faiths July 13 to give people a chance to meet members of different religious traditions and discuss topics of general interest.

Workforce Board hands out awards

VENTURA -- The Workforce Investment Board Workforce Investment Boards (or "WIBs") are regional entities created to implement the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 in the United States, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.  of Ventura County honored the work of the Ventura County Economic Development Association, the county medical center, the Ventura College Foundation's Promise Program and Goodwill Industries with awards for their help in meeting the employment needs of the area.

Awards were presented to these organizations June 15 at the Workforce Investment Board's annual meeting.

Business center hosts workshops

The Ventura County Small Business Development Center is hosting a series of workshops in July to help local business owners with a variety of issues.

A workshop on credit will be held from July 12 and a workshop on starting a small business will be held July 15, both from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road in Moorpark.

On July 20 a workshop on franchises will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Simi Valley City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.

Chamber names member of year

MOORPARK -- Ben Gilbert, publisher of Welcome to the Neighborhood magazine, was named member of the year by the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce.

``His work with the chamber and in the community is outstanding,'' said Virginia Hayward, president of the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce.

Gilbert is also active with the Rotary Club of Moorpark and the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Marvin named Rotarian of Year
