GUSD GUSD Glendale Unified School District (California)  approves '06-'07 budget

GLENDALE -- The Glendale Unified School District The Glendale Unified School District is a school district based in Glendale, California, United States.

The school district serves the city of Glendale, portions of the city of La Cañada and the unincorporated communities of Montrose and La Crescenta.
has adopted a $268 million budget for the 2006-07 school year, which includes a slight increase in state funding.

The spending plan the school board approved 4-0 Tuesday night anticipates revenue of $212 million in state and local funding and more than $83 million dedicated for maintenance, child development and construction programs. Board member Joylene Wagner was absent.

Revenues are about $14 million higher compared to last year, despite a projected enrollment drop of 600 students -- 27,248 students for 2006-07 -- because of higher state revenues expected this year, said Steve Hodgson, the district's chief business and financial officer.

Also, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has restored money pegged to education that lawmakers had raided during the state's budget crisis three years ago, Hodgson said.

But he warned this round of largess from Sacramento is unsustainable -- likely a one-time, election-year giveaway -- and the district must plan accordingly.
