Benbow to head city department

The Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  on Tuesday unanimously confirmed Richard Benbow to head the city's Community Development Department.

Benbow retired earlier this year after a 30-year career with the city's Community Redevelopment Agency, but Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa managed to coax him out of a short-lived retirement last month.

Benbow replaces Clifford Graves, who resigned last Friday.

Memorial service set for Simi vet

Chatsworth man leads recall drive

A Chatsworth resident is launching a recall campaign to oust Councilman Greig Smith, who has supported Sierra Canyon School's plan to expand its campus in a residential area.

Dennis Schwartz wants to get 30,000 signatures for a petition to recall the 12th District councilman, and he's trying to rally North Valley residents concerned with Smith's record on development, Sunshine Canyon Landfill and Wal-Mart.

Smith said he's proud of his record of standing up for the community first, and he said it's unfortunate that people turn to personal attacks instead of using the public forum to voice dissent.
