 - The company that runs the Chiquita Canyon Landfill was hit with a notice of violation this week for discharging contaminants into the air.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), formed in 1976, is the air pollution agency responsible mainly for regulating stationary sources of air pollution for most of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside County, and all of Orange county.  issued the notice April 13 to Republic Service of California, which is seeking to expand the landfill.

The AQMD has issued prior nuisance violations against Republic, following complaints from residents. The landfill sits north of state Route 126 near Val Verde.

Bridge building to close lanes

SANTA CLARITA - Road crews will shut down lanes on Bouquet Canyon Road at Valencia Boulevard starting Monday for three weeks as part of a ongoing bridge construction.

The work will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. Various lanes will be closed to traffic while work continues on the Bouquet Canyon bridge over the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

Valencia package plant shuts down

VALENCIA - A Connecticut-based packaging manufacturer is shuttering its Valencia plant, citing the need to consolidate operations and reduce costs.

The Silgan Plastics plant at 27801 N. Avenue Scott produces plastic containers and employs 90 people. The closing was expected to be completed in the third quarter. Chief Financial Officer Robert Lewis declined to discuss where the work is headed.

Stamford, Conn.-based Silgan Holdings, which produces metal and plastic containers for food and personal care products, reported first-quarter profits of $17.2 million, or 45 cents per share Cents per share

VALENCIA - Scenic Attraction, a band made up of College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  students, is one of five finalists in an MTV talent contest.

Hundreds entered the competition on MTV's www.bestmusiconcampus.com where fans have until 11:59 p.m. Sunday to vote for their favorite.

Not only will the winning band's video be aired on MTV, the band will receive a contract with Drive-Thru records.

Members of Scenic Attraction are lead vocalist Brent Weiss, bassist Randall Adams, guitarists Garrett Eberle and Nick Pucci and drummer David Tiritilli.
