I-5 lanes to be shut down today

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. Woman injured by carjacker

STEVENSON RANCH - A Castaic woman suffered minor injuries shortly before noon Tuesday when she tried to stop a man stealing her car from a Stevenson Ranch parking lot.

The woman told sheriff's investigators she left her keys on a counter inside the McDonald's in Wal-Mart and as she was sitting in the restaurant heard her car alarm sound. She saw a man getting into her 2004 black Honda Civic and ran to the parking lot to try to stop him, according to a sheriff's report.

She grabbed the door handle and was dragged a short distance until she lost her grip. The man drove toward The Old Road and out of sight. He was described as Latino, in his mid 20s and with short hair and a teardrop tearĀ·drop

Officials to meet over annexation

CANYON COUNTRY - Santa Clarita city officials will host a community meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to discuss the proposed annexation of the Stonecrest neighborhood. The meeting will be held at Pinetree Community School, 29156 Lotusgarden Drive, Canyon Country.

Annexing Stonecrest would be a boon to the city because the tract is the nearest to the planned Cemex sand and gravel mine, a project the city has spent $5.5 million battling.Two Canyon Country men have been distributing dueling literature - one extolling the virtues of city government, the other urging residents to force the decision about annexation to a vote.

Stonecrest residents who oppose the annexation or who want it put to a vote will have more than 90 days to file protests with the Local Agency Formation Commission. A LAFCO LAFCO Local Agency Formation Commission

Bank announces record growth

The Santa Clara Valley is a valley just south of the San Francisco Bay in Northern California in the United States.
 Bank boasted record growth Tuesday in announcing its first-quarter results and credited $9 million in deposits in its new Valencia branch for the surge.

During the quarter, which ended March 31, deposits increased $9.4 million or 14 percent, while loans increased $7.3 million or 17 percent. Assets increased by $10.4 million or 14 percent, ending the period at $85.2 million.

Net profit for the quarter was $48,887 or 5 cents per share Cents per share

Vets to receive care packages

VALENCIA - Some 250 volunteers will pack 2,000 boxes of food Saturday in a Valencia warehouse for poor and disabled veterans, under a program sponsored by a housing agency and an insurance group.

The work will be done from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at GG Industries, 28545 Livingston Ave., in the Valencia Commerce Center.

The program is coordinated by L.A. Family Housing and Hoffman Brown Co. to benefit the poor in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley
