Grenade triggers evacuation

WOODLAND HILLS - A Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  fire station was evacuated Tuesday while a police bomb squad examined a grenade dropped off by a resident.

A dozen firefighters from Fire Station 105 left the building just after 2 p.m. when a resident walked in with a grenade found in a box at home, Los Angeles fire spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The MTA will begin street work on Friday for construction of the Orange Line's $26 million Canoga park-and-ride lot.

Temporary traffic controls will be put in place on Canoga Avenue between Victory Boulevard and Vanowen Street for construction of street widening. The nearly 600-space lot is scheduled to open at the end of the year.

The Ford Explorer is a mid-size sport utility vehicle sold in North America and built by the Ford Motor Company since 1990.
 she was driving west on Thousand Oaks Boulevard was hit by a Ford Expedition The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV built by the Ford Motor Company. The crash occurred about 3 p.m. Monday just west of Rancho Road when the Expedition came into the opposing lanes and collided with the Explorer, driven by Marolyne Morrison, police said.

Man in court over daughter's death

A Hesperia man made his initial court appearance Tuesday on a murder charge stemming from the stabbing death of his 45-year-old daughter at a home in Pomona.

But Norberto Hernandez Sr. did not enter a plea. He remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bail pending arraignment A criminal proceeding at which the defendant is officially called before a court of competent jurisdiction, informed of the offense charged in the complaint, information, indictment, or other charging document, and asked to enter a plea of guilty, not guilty, or as otherwise permitted  on April 19.

The 69-year-old defendant is accused of attacking Anna Hernandez with a kitchen knife at a home in the 400 block of Foothill Boulevard early Saturday evening.

The motive for the attack has not been determined, according to Deputy District Attorney Amy Glaudini.

The victim was airlifted to County-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she died.

Her father was arrested at another family member's home after the stabbing, according to Pomona police.

Man arrested for child porn

SIERRA MADRE - A Sierra Madre man who works in the music and children's television industries was arrested Tuesday for possession and production of child pornography Child pornography is the visual representation of minors under the age of 18 engaged in sexual activity or the visual representation of minors engaging in lewd or erotic behavior designed to arouse the viewer's sexual interest. , officials said.

Andrew West Reid Jr., 52, known professionally as Awest, had pornographic images of children on a personal computer and digital cameras seized from his Sierra Madre home, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

Awest also was arrested in January by Pasadena police on suspicion of molesting a child, Eimiller said. He was released on bail and charges are pending, she said.
