Traffic cameras to be reactivated

New transit head approved for city

The City Council on Wednesday approved the appointment of Gloria Jeff as general manager of the Department of Transportation.

Principal wins MetLife award

NORTH HILLS - The principal of Los Angeles Unified School District's Monroe High in North Hills won a 2006 MetLife Foundation award and a grant for her school, the foundation's Ambassadors in Education program announced Wednesday.

Lynda Schwarz was singled out for her efforts to bridge gaps between the campus and parents, businesses and other organizations that make up the school's Valley community.

Through her partnerships, Schwarz has obtained internships for students, offered English-as-a-second language and other classes to parents and brought many speakers to campus.

Gunshot wounds kill 20-year-old

SUN VALLEY - A 20-year-old man died from gun shot wounds Wednesday night in what police are calling a gang-related shooting.

The shooting took place on Peoria Street in Sun Valley and police believe they know who shot the man, said LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.
