Pedestrian dies when cars hit him

CHATSWORTH - A man walking on Topanga Canyon Boulevard was killed when he was hit by three cars, police said Sunday.

The man was hit about 11:50 p.m. Saturday as he was walking along the lane closest to the curb at Old Santa Susana Pass Santa Susana Pass is a mountain pass connecting Simi Valley to the San Fernando Valley.

The road used to be an Indian trail, and later a wagon road (a famous part was called Devil's Slide) before the road was paved.

Bridges at risk in major quake

Cities and counties across California have hundreds of bridges that have been identified as being at the highest risk for collapse in a major earthquake, according to according to

Nearly 600 bridges and overpasses have yet to be reinforced even though the state has made great strides in protecting its own spans from earthquakes, the report said.

 officer hurt when auto is hit

MONTEREY PARK - A CHP officer was injured Sunday when the squad car she was parked in on the shoulder of a freeway in Monterey Park was struck by a suspected drunk driver, authorities said.

The patrol car was hit from behind at 9:07 a.m. while the trooper was parked on the right shoulder of the westbound San Bernardino Freeway The San Bernardino Freeway is the assigned name of an approximately 60-mile (95 km) long segment of Interstate 10 (I-10) between the cities of Los Angeles, California and San Bernardino, California.  at the Long Beach Freeway junction, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.

The officer was hospitalized in moderate condition, he said. The other driver was also hospitalized in unknown condition, he said.
