Shooting victim fights for his life

LANCASTER - A boy wounded in a shooting in Lancaster was fighting for his life Sunday, while a second youngster was reported to have stable vital signs, a sheriff's deputy said.

The shooting in the 45500 block of Gadsden Avenue occurred about 2:40 a.m., and one boy was listed as ``death imminent,'' said Deputy Alba Yates of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

Trevino is to play in AT&T Classic

VALENCIA - Golf legend Lee Trevino will play in this weekend's AT&T Classic at the Valencia Country Club, organizers said.

Trevino, a 29-time winner on the Champions Tour and the first golfer to ever win the U.S. Open, Canadian Open and British Open in the same year, will start off the weeklong event playing with actor George Lopez Wednesday in pro-amateur contest.

Trevino has been a favorite at the tourney, formerly the SBC Classic, a leg in the Champions tour for golfers 50 and over. The tournament is in its sixth year in Valencia.

``Lee Trevino is a legend in the golf community,'' said Brian Fitzgerald, the tournament's executive director. ``His accuracy and consistency in striking the ball catapulted him to fame at an early age, and he continues to remain one of the top golfers in competition.''

In addition to winning 29 Champions Tour events, Trevino won 29 tournaments while competing on the PGA tour. He has won six major Championships, including the U.S. Open in 1968 and 1971; British Open in 1971 and 1972; and the PGA Championship in 1974 and 1984.
