BRIEFLY.Music equipment stolen from bands SIMI VALLEY - Thieves took musical instruments and equipment worth thousands of dollars from a group of young musicians involved in two Simi Valley-based bands, police and victims reported. Four electric guitars, including one bass guitar, a keyboard and a number of amplifiers, were among items taken, said Larry Azarva, 21, a member of the bands Lady and Start the Panic, which practice at his home. Simi Valley police said it appears the thieves knew the equipment was stored in a converted two-story and unlocked shed on the property and targeted the instruments Monday night or Tuesday morning. Azarva estimated the loss at more than $10,000, adding that one vintage guitar had been left to a band member by his late grandfather. - Daily News Council expected to ban smoking CALABASAS - The City Council is expected to give final approval next month to an ordinance that would prohibit smoking in public places - except in certain designated areas - including parks, shopping centers, businesses, bars, restaurants and hotels. Banning smoking at parks and outdoor shopping centers would make the anti-smoking ordinance one of the area's toughest.
