Wireless 911 calls set for an upgrade

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department The Ventura County Sheriff's Department (VCSD) provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, USA, as well as several cities within the county. The cities that VCSD serves are Camarillo, Fillmore, Moorpark, Ojai, and Thousand Oaks.  is upgrading its capabilities to receive some wireless 911 cell phone calls and determine where the calls are coming from.

Now all wireless 911 calls in Ventura County are routed to the California Highway Patrol highway patrol

, but by the middle of 2006 the Sheriff's Department should be receiving wireless 911 calls from certain areas within the county, officials said.

Depending on where the cell towers are situated, some calls will continue to go to the highway patrol, but others will go to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department or other local police agencies, officials said.

Sheriff's deputies said that in any case it will remain essential for emergency callers to tell dispatchers exactly where they are calling from and what is happening.

Biotech training offered by county

Ventura County officials are offering training in a two-year Biotech Career Pathways Project to help dislocated dis·lo·cate

``With companies like Amgen and Baxter (Healthcare) taking root in Ventura County, the skill shortage in the biotechnology sector must be addressed if we as a county are going to raise our employment rates,'' says Lynn Jacobs, chair of the Workforce Investment Board Workforce Investment Boards (or "WIBs") are regional entities created to implement the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 in the United States, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.  of Ventura County.

``This program will prepare dislocated workers for entry-level biotechnology careers, filling a shortage in personnel and lowering unemployment rates.''

The program works with a combination of courses specifically developed and tailored for entry-level biotechnology careers, such as preparation technicians, cleaning technicians, biotechnology lab assistants and manufacturing associates.

Raymond Michael Hebel, who teaches at Moorpark High School Moorpark High School, located in Moorpark, California, is a public high school in the Moorpark Unified School District and currently has an enrollment of 2,478 students.[1]  and does his Elvis performance under the name Raymond Michael will be joined in his musical tribute by a 24-piece orchestra and seven back-up singers.

In his quarter century of impersonating Elvis, Michael, a resident of Moorpark, has performed throughout the United States and around the world. His annual performances to support performing arts at his alma mater, California Lutheran University.

Ticket are $10 to $35. Purchasers of Founders Circle and orchestra pit tickets are invited to join Raymond Michael for a pre-performance reception.

Students create `Time Warp' show

MOORPARK - Students at Moorpark High School have created an original musical production called ``Time Warp'' that they will perform at the school at 7 p.m. Thursday and at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Tickets for the show at the campus performing arts center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre.  are $5 at the door.

The show involves astronauts headed for Mars who crash-land and find themselves among cowboys and Indians. When they attempt to return to their own era they wind up in the 1950s, then running from dinosaurs and traveling into the distant future.

About 70 students are involved in the production, which appeals to all ages, officials said.

SANTA PAULA - The Kiwanis Club and the City of Santa Paula are sponsoring a contest for the design of the poster for this year's annual Santa Paula Citrus Festival.

This year's 39th annual festival will be held July 14-16 at Santa Paula's Harding Park.
