One dead, 3 hurt after car tumbles

 officers the Saturn had been weaving through traffic at more than 90 mph and brushed another vehicle before it skidded off the freeway south of where it crosses over 10th Street West.

Names were not immediately released after the 1:29 p.m. crash.

All four occupants appeared to be in their teens or early 20s and were believed to be from Bakersfield, where the car was registered, CHP officers said.

The driver died despite wearing a seat belt. Two passengers who were thrown from the car were critically injured, officials said. A third passenger crawled out of the wreckage by himself.

The most critically injured passenger was believed to be a brother of the driver, officials said.

The motorist whose vehicle was brushed by the Saturn was not injured. His vehicle suffered only scratches to a fender, CHP officers said.

Motorist injured in CHP car chase

LANCASTER - A motorist was injured Saturday night when a suspected drunk driver in a stolen vehicle ran a red light and hit two vehicles while being chased by law-enforcement officers, officials said.

The motorist, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to a hospital with injuries described as minor to moderate, sheriff's officials said.

The suspect was wanted on a no-bail warrant, but it was not known what offense it was for. His name was also not immediately released.

A California Highway Patrol officer had tried to pull over the vehicle just before 7 p.m. on Avenue J near Cedar Avenue but the vehicle sped off, a CHP report said.

A sheriff's deputy joined the chase just before the crash seven minutes later at Avenue J and 30th Street West, about 4 1/2 miles away, officials said.

Police, motorist injured in crash

HOLLYWOOD - Two Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police officers and a motorist suffered minor injuries in a car crash in Hollywood, police said.

A patrol car carrying two Metro Unit officers collided with another vehicle at Highland and De Longpre avenues about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, said Los Angeles police Officer Catherine Massey.

The officers and the other motorist were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, she said.

Fatal car crash closes 405 lanes

TORRANCE - Two people were fatally injured Saturday in a pre-dawn freeway crash in Torrance, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred on the southbound San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  (405) Freeway, south of Artesia Boulevard, said CHP Officer John Seumanutafa.

A SigAlert was issued at 4:58 a.m., the officer said. Two southbound lanes remained closed for at least three hours, but traffic was moving in three other southbound lanes, said Seumanutafa.
