OXNARD - The Channel Islands Figure Skating Club A figure skating club is a local organization of figure skaters, often centered around a single ice rink. Typical club activities include arranging practice ice time, hosting test sessions and competitions, and producing an annual ice show in which club skaters may take part.  will present Holiday Magic on Ice next month at the Oxnard Ice Skating Center, to benefit Children's Services Auxiliary of Ventura County, which provides assistance for abused and neglected children.

The shows will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 16, and 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 17. Tickets range from $10 to $22, and tables for four are available for $150. Call (805) 988-4440.

Event to feature young violinist

VENTURA - Ventura Music Festival, in partnership with the San Buenaventura
"San Buenaventura" is also the official name of the city in Southern California, United States, normally referred to as Ventura, California. It can also refer to Mission San Buenaventura.
 Foundation for the Arts, will present a free concert featuring 17-year-old Sean Chen in the atrium at Ventura's historic city hall at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10.

A senior at Oak Park High School, Chen has been playing the piano since he was 5 years old.

The City Hall Atrium is located at 501 Poli St.

Firm vows funds for hospital tower

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Waste Management has contributed $5,000 as part of a five-year, $25,000 contribution to the Simi Valley Hospital Simi Valley Hospital (SVH) is a Seventh-day Adventist hospital located located in Simi Valley, California. Simi Valley Hospital is in the process of building a new wing to the hospital.

The $40 million Patient Care Tower, expected to be completed by January 2007, will be a four-story, 146,000 square-foot patient care wing featuring an expanded intensive care unit, 168 private care rooms and eight women's units with labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the federal agency responsible for coordinating emergency planning, preparedness, risk reduction, response, and recovery. The agency works closely with state and local governments by funding emergency programs and providing technical  will provide $16 million, and Adventist Health, Simi Valley Hospital's corporate parent, has committed $10 million.

That leaves approximately $9 million to come through fundraising and other activities of the Simi Valley Hospital Foundation.

 Sunset will help to spread some holiday cheer by distributing gifts to local seniors at the Simi Valley Care Center, a facility that cares for as many as 100 residents.

Rotary Club members will visit the center and deliver more than 150 gifts on Dec. 6, with the gifts to be distributed to the residents on Christmas Day.
