Greuel called on the City Council to urge the Southern California Association of Governments to have the Valley considered a sub-region for statistical purposes to deal with transportation, growth, waste management and air quality.

``This is critical for the businesses, the nonprofits and government agencies,'' Greuel said. ``Creating a SCAG sub-region for the Valley will ensure it gets the recognition and acknowledgment it deserves.''

Suspect arrested in Armenia in U.S.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A fugitive wanted in connection with a 5-year-old North Hollywood murder and arrested in his native Armenia has been returned to Los Angeles by FBI and Armenian law enforcement agents, it was announced Tuesday.

Akop Akopyan, 32, is charged with the September 2000 murder of Garnik Madoyan, according to the FBI.

Akopyan allegedly argued with the victim, whom he knew personally, before shooting him several times and then fleeing in a Jeep driven by someone else.

Authorities believed Akopyan fled to his native country, and their hunch panned out with the Aug. 12 arrest of the suspect in Yerevan.

Akopyan is the third murder suspect this year to be returned from Armenia to face charges in the United States, according to the FBI.

The county has about 90,000 homeless people but only room for 7,000 people at emergency shelters.

Hollywood sign for sale on eBay

Tinseltown's original icon has gone up for sale once again.

After selling chunks of the original Hollywood sign on eBay last year, bringing in $25,000, West Los Angeles-based producer Dan Bliss said he has put the entire thing up on the online auction site. With an opening price of $300,000, he hopes to sell the weather-worn sign's 50-foot-tall letters to a nostalgia buff or tourist attraction.

With four days remaining in the auction, no bidders have placed offers for the iconic piece of Los Angeles. It comes in ``as is'' condition, complete with 1970s-era graffiti exalting ex·alt

Officers were told to stop using the Glock 21 model Thursday after the LAPD's armory discovered that there may be a mechanical flaw with about 2 percent of the guns, McDonnell told the commission.

Officials with Austrian-based Glock Inc. are expected to investigate the matter with the LAPD next week, he said.
