Simi cops, helpers receive awards

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Detective Tim Hilton was named Officer of the Year at the ninth annual Police-Community Partnership Awards Luncheon on Wednesday hosted by the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Simi Valley Police Department The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) is the police department of the city of Simi Valley, California. The department currently has over 120 sworn officers, and more than 65 support personnel[1]. The department has a patrol area that covers over 39 square miles. .

Tom Ohmer was named Reserve Officer of the Year, and Officer Michelle Bertsch received the Michael F. Clark Award. Clark was a Simi Valley officer killed in the line of duty In the Line of Duty may refer to:

 in August 1995.

Tyler Ritch was named Volunteer of the Year and Community Services Specialist Civilian of the year for her service to the department.

Child safety seat station will open

CAMARILLO - A child passenger safety seat fitting station is scheduled to open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The service is being provided by the Ventura County Fire Department Not to be confused with Ventura Fire Department.

The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) provides fire protection and emergency response services for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, and for six other cities within the county.

It's free and open to the public on a first-come basis. After the opening, the station will be staffed by firefighters and volunteers, but will be open by appointment only on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Priority Web registration for continuing students runs through Monday. New students who apply by Nov. 30 can use Web registration beginning Dec. 5.

Nearly $100,000 raised by event

SIMI VALLEY - The annual charity golf tournament for the Simi Valley Hospital Simi Valley Hospital (SVH) is a Seventh-day Adventist hospital located located in Simi Valley, California. SVH is a member of Adventist Health. New Construction
Simi Valley Hospital is in the process of building a new wing to the hospital.
 Foundation made nearly $100,000, officials said.

The proceeds from the event at Lost Canyons Golf Course will benefit the hospital's patient care tower, which is under construction.

Bond watchdog committee sought

SIMI VALLEY - The school board is seeking volunteers to serve on a bond oversight committee to oversee expenditure of the $145 million bond passed by voters in March 2004 to repair and upgrade schools.

Applications can be submitted to the Simi Valley Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  through Dec. 6. M.C. classes free for high schoolers

MOORPARK - High school students who want to get a jump start on college can take free classes at Moorpark College and register in person beginning Dec. 9.

The state of California waives the $26-per-unit enrollment fee for current high school students or home-schooled students younger than 18 who can do college-level work. All other fees apply.

The Moorpark College spring 2006 schedule of classes is available online at www.moorparkcollege.edu/spring.

The spring semester begins Jan. 9.
