Rabbi's death termed suicide

NORTHRIDGE - Rabbi Steven Tucker, the longtime leader of Temple Ramat Zion, died Nov. 10 after driving his car over a cliff in Yosemite National Park Yosemite National Park (yōsĕm`ĭtē), 761,266 acres (308,205 hectares), E central Calif.; est. 1890 as a result of the efforts of conservationist John Muir. Located in the Sierra Nevada, it is a glacier-scoured area of great beauty; Mt. , an act officials determined was a suicide, authorities said Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the Mariposa County Sheriff's Department said Tucker died when he drove his car off a 150-foot-high embankment on Wawona Road and that he left a suicide note A suicide note is a message left by someone who later attempts or commits suicide. It is estimated that 12-20% of suicides are accompanied by a note.[1] However, incidence rates may depend on race, method of suicide, and cultural differences and may reach rates as high .

Ramat Zion has not released any details of Tucker's death, but synagogue officials said they would issue a statement tonight. Funeral services were held Tuesday.

Blake jurors still in deliberations

Lakes' ice rink to debut Friday

Wesson can do all but cast votes

City Councilman-elect Herb Wesson took responsibility Wednesday as caretaker of his new 10th District council office, allowing him to begin putting staff in place before his formal swearing-in next month.

Wesson asked Council President Alex Padilla for the designation, letting Wesson begin the job that has been done since July 1 by the Chief Legislative Analyst's Office after the resignation of former Councilman Martin Ludlow, who went to work for the Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO AFL-CIO: see American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations.
