Two men, 22, die as bike crashes

CASTELLAMMARE - A motorcyclist and his passenger died when they struck an SUV and were thrown from the bike, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police said Sunday. One victim died at the scene Saturday night and the other died later at a nearby hospital.

 near Sunset Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. when they ran into a sport utility vehicle making a U-turn in front of them, police said. Love and his passenger, Keith Naylor, also 22 of Malibu, were hurled from the bike. Love died instantly.

The SUV driver, Mark Paozella, 40, of Coto de Caza near Irvine wasn't injured.

PACOIMA - Pacoima Beautiful, a nonprofit group dedicated to improving the quality of life in the northeast San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

, has received a $90,000 grant from the federal EPA to help reduce toxic pollution in the community.

The money from the Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  will allow the group to study four sources of pollution and establish priorities for reducing them. It also will examine businesses in the industrial corridor and address lead-based paint hazards in homes.

``We know we can make great progress to help reduce the number of hazards that exacerbate health problems faced by our community,'' Pacoima Beautiful Executive Director Marlene Grossman said.

Tons of bananas spilled on freeway

NORWALK - About 28,000 pounds of bananas spilled on the Santa Ana Freeway The Santa Ana Freeway is one of the principal freeways in Southern California, connecting Los Angeles, California and its southeastern suburbs. CARSON - A suspected carjacker was at large Sunday after eluding officers at the end of a pursuit that lasted more than an hour, an officer said.

The man is alleged to have stolen a vehicle about 6 a.m. Saturday from a 7-Eleven market at Gaffey and 9th streets in San Pedro, said Los Angeles police Officer Grace Brady.

The victim was unharmed and called police, she said.

Officers saw the vehicle at 9:55 a.m. Sunday on the Harbor and San Diego freeways in Los Angeles and attempted to pull him over, she said.

A chase ensued that lasted more than an hour.

The suspect abandoned the car in the 18200 block of Bonham Bonham can refer to:
