The 450-ton train, decorated with more than 50,000 lights and life-size holiday displays, arrives at 6:15 p.m. at the station, 5050 Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Ave.

There will be two live stage shows featuring Santa Claus. The public is welcome to the free event and encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to donate for needy children in the Simi Valley area, which will be distributed by the county Fire Department.

Winter day camp sign-ups to open

SIMI VALLEY - Winter day camp registrations begin Monday for children grades K-6.

The Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Recreation and Park District is offering two day camps, one at Berylwood Neighborhood Park and another at Rancho Santa Susana Santa Susana can refer to several places:
  • The Santa Susana Mountains in southern California
  • Santa Susana Pass, running through the abovementioned mountains
  • Santa Susana Field Laboratory, near Los Angeles, a test facility for rockets and (formerly) nuclear reactors
 Community Center.

Both winter day camps are open Dec. 19-23 and Dec. 26-30. The camp opens at 6:45 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.

Registration forms are available at the Sycamore Drive Community Center.

Experts to discuss seniors' finances

SIMI VALLEY - The Simi Valley Police Department The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) is the police department of the city of Simi Valley, California. The department currently has over 120 sworn officers, and more than 65 support personnel[1]. The department has a patrol area that covers over 39 square miles.  and the Simi Valley Police Foundation will co-sponsor the ``Financially Prudent Senior Seminar'' on Saturday.

The seminar is scheduled for 1-5 p.m. at Simi Valley City Hall Council Chambers, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.

Representatives from the Police Department, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office and other agencies will be on hand to discuss ways to protect your financial future.

Homelessness is topic of meeting

According to Lutheran Social Services, an individual earning minimum wage would need to work 125 hours each week to afford a one-bedroom apartment in the community and would need to make $22 per hour to afford a two- bedroom apartment.

The average apartment in the Conejo Valley rents for more than $1,000 a month and the annual income needed to afford a market-price home in the area is more than $120,000.

Health center lab, cafeteria are open

VENTURA - The Ventura County Health Care Agency celebrated the grand opening Friday of the Ventura County Medical Center's new laboratory, kitchen and cafeteria.

The 34,213-square-foot structure at 3291 Loma Vista Road in Ventura cost $16.1 million. It will provide office and work space for 120 employees, while the cafeteria, on the lower level, has a dining capacity for 270.

About 1.3 million clinical tests are performed each year in the laboratory.

Restoration trust to dedicate trail
