Appliances, clean concrete and asphalt, and clean wood and green waste also will be accepted for recycling.

THOUSAND OAKS - Supporters of St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School is an independent nursery, elementary, and middle school in Washington, D.C., spanning Pre-K through eighth grade. It is affiliated with and shares a building with St. Patrick's Episcopal Church.  in Thousand Oaks are dedicating a new 10,000-square-foot, $2.3 million main building today on campus.

The elementary school opened 40 years ago in a building called Canterbury Hall and it grew from eight students to 150 today. The new building doubles the square footage of the campus, and is the culmination of a two-year effort. The school now has a capacity of 225.

New program set to help new moms

SIMI VALLEY - A $30,000 grant to Simi Valley Hospital from the Alcoa Foundation will pay for a new program aimed at helping newborns and their mothers get a healthy start together.

Administered by the hospital's Child Development Center staff, the Newborn Home Visitation Initiative is slated to begin early in 2006.

Under the program, a nurse will visit the home within a week of the baby's discharge from the hospital to answer questions about breast-feeding breast-feeding /breast-feedĀ·ing/ (brestĀ“fed?ing) nursing; the feeding of an infant at the mother's breast. , head control, diaper changing and more. Soon after, a child development specialist will also pay a visit to the new mom to answer questions and provide advice.

The child development specialist will return in four months and in nine months for follow-up visits.

In between, the nurse and child development specialist will conduct four telephone consultations with the new mom to monitor progress, give encouragement, connect her with community resources and continue to answer her questions.

Local arts groups get cash grants

THOUSAND OAKS - Thirty-six local arts groups have been awarded $200,000 in grants, it was announced by the Alliance for the Arts, the nonprofit fundraising arm of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is a performing arts and administrative center located in Thousand Oaks, California. It was built in 1994 on the former site of "Jungleland" at a cost of $63.8 million. .

Grant recipients include arts organizations involving people throughout the Conejo Valley area and Ventura County.

Some of the organizations include the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestras, the Master Chorale chorale (kōrăl`, –räl`), any of the traditional hymns of the German Protestant Church. The form was developed after the Reformation to replace the plainsong of the earlier service and as a means of congregational participation in  of Ventura County, the New West Symphony, the Santa Susana Repertory Company, the Agoura Hills Youth Ballet Theater and the Conejo Civic Ballet Company.
