Firefighters say pose was forced

BURBANK - About a half-dozen firefighters will claim today they were forced to participate in a photo opportunity with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, according to a union official.

The firefighters who will appear at the news conference are from the Los Angeles, Los Angeles County and Ventura County fire departments, according to Carroll Wills of the California Professional Firefighters.

Schwarzenegger posed with the firefighters during a news conference Friday in Thousand Oaks after flying over the Topanga Fire in a helicopter and receiving a briefing.

A representative of Schwarzenegger's press office declined to comment on the allegation.

Support sought for road project

SANTA CLARITA - Councilman Frank Ferry traveled Tuesday to Washington, D.C., to seek funding for the Cross Valley Connector roadway, a $245 million project connecting the Golden State and Antelope Valley freeways.

The 8 1/2-mile roadway is being constructed with funds from the city, state and federal governments and private developers. More than $62 million is still needed to complete the project, the Santa Clarita councilman said.

The city has requested $8 million from the federal government to construct an 1,100-foot bridge across the Santa Clara River Santa Clara River may refer to:

A southbound lane between Las Flores Canyon Road and Decker Canyon Road will be closed today between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for repaving.

A southbound lane will be closed between Encinal Canyon Road and Broad Beach Road next Wednesday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A southbound lane will be closed between Sweetwater Mesa Road and Carbon Canyon Road next Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Harris said.
