Car-to-car gunfire leaves 1 man dead

MISSION HILLS - A suspected gang member was killed in a car-to-car shooting at Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. Zavala was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History , where he died, officials said.

The suspects were described as two men in their 20s with shaved heads driving in a dark compact car.

Spector trial start likely in January

Rock music producer Phil Spector made a brief court appearance Monday at which a judge said his murder trial would probably begin in January.

Spector, known for creating rock music's ``wall of sound'' in the 1960s, is charged with fatally shooting actress Lana Clarkson at his Alhambra mansion in early 2003. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on $1 million bail.

 Museum officials charged Monday that a published report alleging that the institution knowingly acquired illegally excavated or exported objects was based on information stolen from its files.

A newspaper report Sunday said the museum continued to purchase classical artwork for years even though it suspected that some of the pieces were looted from Italian ruins. The museum has denied the allegations.

``As much as it would like to be able to do so, the Getty cannot respond to many of the ... assertions because they rely on privileged and confidential information stolen from the Getty's files,'' the museum said in a statement.

Reagan Library items are sought

An attorney told a federal judge Monday that there are 10 documents she wants the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Coordinates:

 to be ordered to release before the Senate votes on John Roberts' Supreme Court nomination.

The documents include memos, correspondence and items from Roberts' ``chronological'' daily file from his years as a lawyer with the Reagan White House, Aimee Dudovitz said outside the courtroom.

Dudovitz is co-counsel on the case, along with attorneys from the group People for the American Way People For the American Way (PFAW) is a progressive advocacy organization in the United States. Under U.S. tax code, PFAW is organized as a tax-exempt 501(c)(4) non-profit organization. The current president of PFAW is Ralph Neas. . In response to Freedom of Information Act requests filed in July, the presidential library in Simi Valley cited the privacy concerns of third parties involved in the documents as grounds for refusing to release the papers at issue, Dudovitz said.

Joseph M. Medawar, 43, was arrested Friday in Century City. He is set to be arraigned Oct. 24 in the federal case, in which he faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

With a resume listing him as a producer of ``Hardbodies 2'' and several other films, he told investors his company was developing a TV series called ``DHS'' that was supposedly endorsed by Bush and former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, prosecutors allege.
