Prosecutors want charges reinstated

Prosecutors asked Monday that charges be reinstated against six people who were accused, along with a prominent lawyer, of trying to hide the sources of contributions to James Hahn's 2001 mayoral campaign.

Attorney Pierce O'Donnell, 58, is awaiting trial on two dozen misdemeanor charges of improper identification of campaign donors for allegedly trying to hide the sources of contributions to the ex-mayor's first campaign.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ann I. Jones ruled Feb. 10 that charges should be dismissed against the defendants who had been charged along with O'Donnell. They are: Hilda Escobar, a legal secretary; Linda Fraser, an attorney who worked as a legal secretary; Neil Sacker sack·er

Chaka Khan's son will stand trial

Singer Chaka Khan's 26-year-old son was ordered Monday to stand trial on a murder charge stemming from a teenager's shooting death last year.

Bailey grew up in Belfast until the age of 7 when the family emigrated to Australia.

Seabees deployed to Katrina zone

A base spokeswoman said their mission is to clear roads so that civil organizations can reach hurricane victims and to set up logistics centers to distribute food and water as well as to provide emergency medical services An Emergency medical service (abbreviated to initialism "EMS" in many countries) is a service providing out-of-hospital acute care and transport to definitive care, to patients with illnesses and injuries which the patient believes constitutes a medical emergency. . They will also assist military bases in the area to get back in operation.

Terror suspects plead not guilty

Two of four men who allegedly plotted to attack local synagogues, military sites and Israeli facilities pleaded not guilty Monday in Santa Ana to federal conspiracy and terrorism-related charges and other counts.

A November 8 trial date was set for Levar Haney Washington and Gregory Vernon Patterson, who were arrested July 5 following a gas station holdup in Fullerton.

Officials believe that the suspects intended to use money from robberies to fund terrorist operations. All four men allegedly were part of a radical Islamic group with roots in the state prison system.

Sepulveda Pass fire extinguished

Committee asked to put off debate

SUNLAND - Saying the community has not had a chance to review a new map for the proposed 230-home Canyon Hills project in Sunland, Councilwoman Wendy Greuel's office has asked the council's Planning and Land Use Committee to postpone consideration of the project until September 27.
